Heavy on vegetables, fish and olive oil and capped with moderate amounts of wine, the Mediterranean diet may be associated with slower rates of mental decline. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study that analysed extensive data that even accounted for aberrations due
to smoking, education, obesity, hypertension and other factors, before concluding as much.
Sticking to the diet made a huge difference - with consumers of such a diet being cognitively the equivalent of two years younger than those who weren't.
