Water is often overlooked as a nutrient. People who do not drink enough water feel headaches, muscle aches and cramps.

Although you will get some of the liquid you need from food, the best source is really just plain water. Herbal teas, low-sugar soy beverages, rice beverages and milk are so good sources.

Fruit juices and soft drinks are fine, but there may be excess calories with the added sugar. Soups will add lot of water too, however, canned soups usually contain a high amount of sodium.

There are times when drinking too much water can be an issue; especially if you have any kidney or adrenal problems. If you're taking diuretics, you need to consult your doctor about how much water to drink each day. Divide the amount you need and drink several glasses of water throughout the day. This is especially important if you engage in lots of heavy exercise.
