Bad news for coffee addicts, if you take unfiltered coffee. A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reveals that drinking unfiltered coffee increases the blood levels of homocysteine, a naturally occurring substance that forms when the body breaks down protein. Elevated levels of homocysteine have long been associated with an increased risk of heart disease. So if you have to drink coffee, drink it filtered.
