Saying that processed meats cause cancer is a bit of a stretch, although some studies have pointed to a possible link. However, it is an accepted fact that processed meats, packed with salt and preservatives, are not the healthiest food choices available. If your diet often includes sausages, ham, bacon or luncheon meat, it is in your best interest to switch to healthier types. Try fish or poultry in place of preserved meats and bake, broil and poach instead of frying or pre-salting.
