High Uric Acid, Higher Risk of Heart Disease

Watch your uric acid level. Researchers from New York's Albert Einstein College) of Medicine studied 6,000 people for more than 16 years and found that those 45 and older with a high uric acid level were more likely to die or heart disease. Women with the most uric acid were three times more likely to die from heart disease than those with the least. Excess uric acid in the body may be due to kidney problems, diseases such as cancer, diuretic medication, dehydration, too much alcohol in the diet, or too much purine-rich food, which include innards, seafood, soya products and vegetables such as mushrooms, spinach and cauliflower.
